This webinar will explore cutting-edge techniques and methodologies for leveraging textual data to uncover new indicators of innovation.
Participants who have integrated Natural Language Processing (NLP), machine learning, and deep learning into social science and innovation studies will discuss how their research and experimentation can foster new methods in these fields.
The session will examine the use of new data, particularly textual data, to develop indicators that measure innovation or related concepts and activities. Insights from their latest work will be shared, focusing on addressing critical questions about the future of innovation studies.
Additionally, the webinar will highlight some of the most significant outcomes of the 4point0 project.

Participants
Philip Shapira – Professor of Innovation Management and Policy at the Manchester Institute for Innovation Research, Alliance Manchester Business School, and Part-Time Professor of Public Policy at Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. His work spans science and innovation policy and management, emerging technologies and governance, regional innovation, and policy evaluation.
Ashkan Ebadi – Dr. Ebadi is a multidisciplinary data science researcher specializing in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, deep learning, and graph analytics. He earned his Ph.D. in information systems engineering with an emphasis on AI-based decision support systems and completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in health informatics at the University of Florida.
Alvar Herrera – PhD student in Technology & Innovation Management. Over 13 years of experience in product and program management, software development, helping businesses realize their full potential through advanced technological integration and strategic business planning in diverse deep-tech industries.
Pietro Cruciata – A PhD candidate at Polytechnique Montréal, Cruciata previously obtained a master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Bologna. His research primarily focuses on developing and validating innovation indicators through the analysis of company websites and methodological advancements in NLP.
Mikaël Héroux-Vaillancourt – His research focuses on assessing the validity of innovation measures obtained from innovation-related signals retrieved the websites of technological companies. He holds a PhD in industrial engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. Over the course of his works, Mikaël was involved in several projects of technological entrepreneurship that allowed him to build complementary experience.
